St. Louis Browns Names Rogers as Editor
St. Louis, MO - The St. Louis Browns Historical Society has named Bill Rogers Editor of
the St. Louis Browns Fan Club newsletter called “Pop Flies.” Rogers is a life-long resident
of St. Louis living in Oakville in South County. Bill is also an avid baseball and Brownie fan.
Bill started a consulting business in 1988 and writing a technology newsletter for credit
unions along with one on biometric identification (fingerprint, facial recognition, iris, etc.)
Rogers maintains several blog and web sites on the Internet in support of local issues,
credit unions and the biometric ID industry. He is actively involved in producing conferences
and seminars as a meeting planner. Bill is also on the speaking circuit and acts as a
moderator for several national programs.
According to Bill, “As a youngster I recall seeing dozens of Browns ball games along with Cardinal games. I still have a collection of Browns scorecards which we’ll share with our readers. Many of the scorecards are covered with autographs. I recall seeing one game where Joe DiMaggio hit three line drive home runs off the scoreboard at Sportsman’s park. I can’t recall who won the game, but I suspect we lost.”
Bill was also a legitimate member of the Knot Hole Gang as a young lad. “We often waited under the stands to get autographs from players as they walked from the field to their locker room. If we didn’t recognize the player, we found out later from his autograph. Those were the days of real baseball.”
St. Louis Browns Historical Society was formed to preserve the history and memory of the St. Louis Browns baseball team. The Browns won only one pennant in their 50 year history in St. Louis meeting the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series in 1944.
Rogers says, “If you have any Browns memories such as the one recalled above, how about sharing it with us. You can make it as long or as short as you want. You can mail it direct to us or send it by e-mail.”
